Countback credits Purvis Wonthaggi MXD victory over Malkiewicz

Yamaha duo tie on points while Duffy dominates 125cc Junior Cup category.

New Zealand’s Maximus Purvis (Altherm JCR Yamaha) has claimed his first MXD overall victory today at Wonthaggi’s third round of the Pirelli MX Nationals in Victoria, tying on points with Bailey Malkiewicz (Bulk Nutrients WBR Yamaha) to be awarded the top spot on count-back.

Malkiewicz edged out Purvis by 2.283s in the opening affair, with the duo lodging quick times that were four seconds quicker than their MXD counterparts.

Jye Dickson (KTM) pushed his way into third, while Callum Norton (Penrite Honda Racing) comfortably held onto fourth ahead of MX Nationals newcomer and Western Australian Mat Fabry (Yamaha), who rounded out the top five.

It was similar situation in race two with Purvis and Malkiewicz controlling the field out front, although on this occasion it was Purvis who broke through to claim victory by 10.559s.

KTM-mounted privateer Morgan Fogarty promoted himself from sixth in race one to third in the final outing, which ultimately granted him third overall behind Malkiewicz and Purvis. The top five in race two was concluded by Hugh McKay (Bulk Nutrients WBR Yamaha) and Norton.

In the 125cc Junior Cup, Western Australian Regan Duffy (KTM) proved to be unstoppable as he stormed to commanding victories both times he hit the circuit, ultimately crediting him the overall win. Fellow KTM ace Blake Fox claimed second after tying on points with Liam Andrews, the pair going 4-2 and 2-4 respectively.

The MXD and 125cc Junior Cup classes will be back on-track tomorrow alongside the MX1 and MX2 championship categories for the fourth round of the series.
