McElrath storms to 250SX West win at penultimate stop of the series.
Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Marvin Musquin has clinched his second-straight main event victory at the penultimate round of the Monster Energy AMA Supercross Championship in Salt Lake City.
The Frenchman stormed to a six-second victory over Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Eli Tomac, just one week after the pair clashed in a controversial pass for the win.
Rocky Mountain ATV/MC KTM’s Blake Baggett rounded out the podium in an impressive third, while Christian Craig (Honda HRC) and Justin Barcia (Monster Energy Yamaha Factory Racing) completed the first five across the line.
Points leader Jason Anderson (Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing) was unable to clinch the championship as he was forced into the mechanics area, losing a bunch of positions as his front wheel was frantically changed, resulting in the number 21 finishing up in 17th. He still holds a 14-point advantage in the standings. Australian Chad Reed (Husqvarna) wound up in 11th.
In the 250SX West division, TLD Red Bull KTM’s Shane McElrath charged to the number one position, defeating Pro Circuit Monster Energy Kawasaki duo Adam Cianciarulo and Joey Savatgy.
Points leader Aaron Plessinger (Monster Energy Yamalube Star Yamaha) finished in fourth ahead of Chase Sexton (Geico Honda), while Aussie Hayden Mellross (51Fifty Yamaha) completed the night in 16th.
The AMA Supercross series will wind up next weekend in Las Vegas, where all three championships will be decided.
