Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Eli Tomac has labelled Marvin Musquin’s (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing) last lap pass during Foxborough’s Monster Energy AMA Supercross main event as a cheap shot, which ultimately saw the latter walk away with the win.

The duo battled for the duration of the race, with Tomac snatching the lead with a lap to go. Musquin returned the pass, making a desperate dive on the inside of Tomac that resulted in the pair colliding. Unharmed, Tomac was was able to remount his damaged KX450F to salvage second.

Tensions were high in the post-race press conference, where Tomac expressed his dissatisfaction in the Frenchman’s tactics, stating the brutal pass came out of nowhere.

“It was cat and mouse for the whole race there,” said Tomac. “I just got blasted from the inside in that second turn – it came from nowhere and it was cheap shot. That was tough.

“My grip got ripped off and my throttle tube got eaten up a little bit – it was good enough to make it to the finish. I looked down at my throttle and the thing was destroyed, I was expecting to DNF at the point. I went to the bike and it was fine, and yeah, I was obviously not happy at that time.”

Tomac sits third in the championship standings as just two rounds remain, with the penultimate stop set to be hosted this weekend in Salt Lake City.
