Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Jeffrey Herlings has regained the points lead after lodging a perfect 1-1 scorecard at the weekend’s fourth round of the MXGP World Championship in Trentino, Italy.

The Dutchman put an absolute demonstration for the crowd, defeating Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Clement Desalle and Italian hero Antonio Cairoli (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing).

Desalle pieced together 2-3 results sheet for the runner-up spot, while Cairoli, who suffered a front brake issue in the opening moto, went 4-2 for third, positioning himself 10 markers behind Herlings in the standings.

Former world champion Romain Febvre (Monster Energy Yamaha) wound up in fourth, edging out Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Glenn Coldenhoff.

In MX2, Jorge Prado (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing) put an end to teammate and championship leader Pauls Jonass’ winning streak, stealing victory from the defending champion to mark his first win of the year.

Prado went 1-2 in the two moto affair, falling short of a perfect weekend in race two to Thomas Covington (Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing), who concluded the weekend second overall with a victory to his name.

STC Racing Husqvarna’s Henry Jacobi took a surprise podium in third, as Kemea Yamaha Official MX Team’s Vsevolod Brylyakov and Jonass closed out the top five. It proved to be a challenging weekend for Jonass, only being able to muster up 4-9 race results.

It was a mixed round for Australians Jed Beaton (F&H Racing Kawasaki) and Hunter Lawrence (Team Honda 114 Motorsport’s), with Beaton charging to an impressive 15-8 scorecard for 12th overall, while Lawrence was forced to retire from the weekend’s racing after suffering a hand injury during Saturday’s timed practice.

In the opening round of the Womens class, Larissa Papenmeier (Suzuki) defeated New Zealand favourite Courtney Duncan (Yamaha) for the top spot, as it was Kiara Fontanesi who rounded out the podium in third. Australia’s Emma Milesevic (Yamaha) was 17th overall.

The next stop of the MXGP World Championship is scheduled for this weekend at the Crossdromo Internacional de Águeda venue in Portugal.
