Youthful talent Cooper Pozniak will enter this year’s Pirelli MX Nationals aboard a Yamaha YZ250F, in what will be a privateer effort for his rookie season in the MX2 category.

Pozniak, who was formerly a member of the Yamalube Yamaha team in his final MXD campaign last year, will remain aboard Yamaha machinery, largely due to its impressive package and his familiarity on the Japanese-manufactured motorcycle.

Along with the support of his parents, the New South Welshman has attracted the assistance of multiple companies who will back him for the 10-round series.

“I’m pretty much doing a full privateer deal with dad,” Pozniak told MotoOnline.com.au. “Dad, mum and I will be doing our own thing with some help from some really good people who have helped me in the past. Dad will be my mechanic at the races, so it should be good and I’m looking forward to it.

“We’ve chosen to ride the Yamaha because I rode it last year, I’m pretty used to it now and it’s a good bike out of the box – it really quick out of the box and easy to maintain, so we’ll be sticking with Yamaha again.”

Pozniak had a taste of the MX2 division at the conclusion of the 2017 MX Nationals series, which has only amplified his excitement to graduate to the more competitive class.

“I’m really excited to step up to the MX2 class, I raced MX2 at Toowoomba and Coolum [last year] and I really enjoyed the 30-minute motos. It’s much more professional in that class, and I enjoy doing the longer motos, so I’m looking forward to it.

“I want to start the year off in the top 10, and just progress from there and be inside the top five. It’s a stacked class and there a lot of fast guys, but I want to get the first round out of the way, have a good round, and then work my way towards the top five.”

The opening round of the 2018 Pirelli MX Nationals is scheduled for 15 April at Newry in Victoria.
