Red Bull KTM’s Antonio Cairoli captured a clean-sweep in round three of the 2018 MXGP World Championship at Redsand in Spain, levelling up with teammate Jeffrey Herlings in the point-standings.

Defending champion Cairoli was in the mood for full points following runner-up positions in both Argentina and Holland, topping Herlings and Clement Desalle (Monster Energy Kawasaki) overall.

Herlings went 2-2 and lamented a poor start in the first moto and a first lap tumble in the second. The Dutchman had a tough day cutting through the pack – setting the fastest lap both times – but the victor of Argentine and Dutch rounds secured a third consecutive trophy and ties on points with Cairoli at the tip of MXGP. Despite the same number of wins and second places, Cairoli has the red plate for round four by virtue of his status as the most recent winner.

In MX2 it was world champion Pauls Jonass (Red Bull KTM) who continued his dominance with another 1-1 result for the overall victory ahead of teammate Jorge Prado and Thomas Kjer Olsen (Rockstar Energy Husqvarna).

Team Honda 114 Motorsports’ Hunter Lawrence was fifth overall after registering 5-5 finishes, as countryman Jed Beaton (F&H Racing Kawasaki) went 8-6 for seventh overall. As a result, Lawrence sits fourth in the championship and Beaton P7 ahead of round four at Pietramurata, Italy, on 8 April.
