Factory Yamaha rider sidelined just one week after season-first podium.
A practice crash sustained early last week saw Monster Energy Yamaha Factory Racing’s Cooper Webb suffer a shoulder dislocation, which later contributed to another crash during the opening free practice session at the weekend’s 11th round of Monster Energy AMA Supercross in St. Louis.
Webb released a statement via social media, confirming the injury ultimately denied him of continuing through the weekend, which has now casted doubt over his attendance in the coming rounds of the series.
“[I] just want to give everyone a heads up,” Webb commented. “I had a practice crash on Tuesday resulting in a shoulder injury/dislocation due to a freak bike problem out of anyone’s hands. I rehabbed all week to try to race today in St. Louis, unfortunately my shoulder isn’t good enough to race today which resulted in a free practice crash in practice one.
“Extremely bummed but I will do everything in my power to be back as soon as I can. I’d like to thank all my sponsors and fans for understanding.”
It’s a bitter blow for Webb, who just came off his first podium of the season at Daytona. It’s likely the premier class contender will undergo further evaluation this week to determine the extent of the injury, however he’ll be racing against the clock to be ready in time for this weekend’s 12th stop of the series in Indianapolis.
