Herlings charges to perfect MXGP results at Valkenswaard
Reigning champion Jonass clean-sweeps MX2 category in The Netherlands.
Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Jeffrey Herlings has boosted his MXGP World Championship lead with a stunning 1-1 scorecard at the weekend’s second round of the series in Valkenswaard, The Netherlands.
Entering the weekend tied on points with teammate Antonio Cairoli (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing), the Dutchman was able to defeat the defending world champion in both outings, extending his series lead to six points.
Cairoli settled for second overall in the harsh conditions with a pair of runner-up finishes, while the final spot on the podium was credited to Gautier Paulin (Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing), who strung together 7-3 results.
Tied on points with Paulin was Glenn Coldenhoff (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing), who was awarded fourth after finishing the second moto fourth, as Romain Febvre (Monster Energy Yamaha Factory Racing) completed the overall top five.
In the MX2 category, reigning world champion Pauls Jonass (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing) also lodged a perfect weekend with two moto wins to his credit.
Teammate Jorge Prado (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing) pieced together two second place finishes for the runner-up spot, edging out Thomas Kjer Olsen in third.
Fourth was taken out by Conrad Mewse (Hitachi KTM UK), just ahead of Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing’s Thomas Covington. Australia’s Hunter Lawrence (114 Motorsport Honda) wound up sixth overall with a 6-6 scorecard, as compatriot Jed Beaton (F&H Racing Kawasaki) was 12th overall after racing to 8-17 moto scores.
The next round on the world championship calendar his scheduled for this weekend at the Redsand circuit in Valencia, Spain.
