Waters rounds out AUS Supercross season at mud-soaked Jimboomba

Team Honda Racing press release:

Crankt Protein Honda Racing’s Todd Waters capped off his 2017 Australian Supercross Championship campaign with a heat race win, but unfortunate main event DNF at Jimboomba’s sixth and final round of the series.

Faced with challenging, rainy conditions throughout the entire event, Waters kicked off the shortened on-track schedule by qualifying fourth in SX1 with a time of 1m00.459s.

Heat one of the premier class saw the Queenslander make his way through to the lead position as he rode on to victory, finishing 23 seconds ahead of his nearest competitor following eight laps.

Unfortunately for Waters his strong run in the wet and slippery conditions came to an end during the 15-lap main event as he became stranded on-track and eventually logged a disappointing non-finish.

Unsatisfied to round out the season on a low note, Waters remains positive and takes confidence in his strong qualifying and heat race performances in the most challenging conditions the series saw this season.

“We did what we had to do, but in the end it didn’t work out for us,” Waters said. “On a positive side, we rode well in the heat race and we got the win there.

“We led that confidence into the main, but unfortunately we ended our night in the middle of a jump and I couldn’t start my bike, so basically that was a wrap for the race and the year.”

Waters, who captured one podium finish at Bacchus Marsh’s second round, finished out the year eighth overall amongst a talented list of both domestic and international contenders.

Teammate Luke Clout, who bowed out of the series due to injury at Sydney’s AUS-X Open, rounded out his rookie season in the SX1 category placed 13th overall.
