Wilson Coolair Motul Suzuki press release:
Wilson Coolair Motul Factory Suzuki’s Nick Schmidt and Luke Wilson are preparing to begin the journey to Sydney with the fourth and fifth rounds of the Australian Supercross Championship, the AUS-X Open taking place at Qudos Bank Arena this Saturday and Sunday.
The event which will welcome a host of international talent as well as a sold out crowd this weekend, is known globally as one of the biggest Supercross races in the world and both Wilson and Schmidt have been working hard to prepare for the double header.
Schmidt, who qualified in fourth in the talented SX1 category at the previous round two weeks ago, shared that he’s excited to go to battle with some of his very own country men.
“I’m feeling good ahead of this weekend – I’ve had a couple of days on the bike and my knee is feeling a lot better which is a positive,” Schmidt shared.
“I’m keen to get indoors for these two rounds – it’s a lot more like what we have at home, I have a few guys coming over that I race against every weekend too so it will sort of feel like I’m back in America in a way.”
“Before I came out here I hadn’t heard too much about the AUS-X Open but now that I’m here I know what a big deal it is, and know it definitely one of the biggest events in the country, so I’m really excited to be a part of it and can’t wait to go racing this weekend.”
Despite suffering a crash earlier this week and injuring his wrist, Wilson is determined to get behind the gates this weekend, and says that AUS-X Open is one of the most important races of the year for him.
“Unfortunately earlier this week I had a crash while practicing and I hurt my Scaphoid again,” Wilson explained.
“It’s an old injury and it’s just held up my training a bit this week, but the plan is to head to Sydney and jump on the bike and see what we can do.
“AUS-X Open is huge, and it’s a race that as a rider we look forward to all year – I’ll be doing everything I can to make sure I’m ready for Saturday and Sunday, so fingers crossed I can rest this wrist a bit and we’ll be good to go.”
The fourth and fifth rounds of the 2017 Australian Supercross Championship, the AUS-X Open will take place at Qudos Bank Arena in Sydney this Saturday and Sunday November 11-12.
