Despite showing promise with the fourth fastest qualifying time, Nick Schmidt’s night at Virgnia’s third round of the Australian Supercross Championship took a turn for the worst as he battled with crashes throughout the night show.

Despite the unfortunate run of events that included a heavy fall in his heat and clashing with another rider in the main, the American says there a lot of positives to take away from the night where wound up in 10th position.

“The weekend started off really well,” Schmidt reflected. “I was fast all day and I just made a stupid mistake in the heat race and hurt my knee a bit.

“It was a massive crash that I had, but I knew that I could ride better than I could walk so in the main I gave it my all. I had a good jump but I got hit by another rider and went down so I had to get back up and I eventually got back to 10th.

“Although it doesn’t look great on paper, there were a lot of positives to take from the weekend. We certainly have the speed so now it’s about putting it all together. I’ll have a couple of days off to let the body rest and then and come out even stronger in Sydney.”

The Wilson Coolair Motul Factory Suzuki rider currently sits ninth in the championship standings as the series heads to the Monster Energy AUS-X Open at Sydney Qudos Bank Arena on 11-12 November, marking rounds four and five of the series.
