Holcombe crowned EnduroGP world champion in Zschopau
KTM's Garcia earns E2 world title in German finale.
Team Beta Factory Racing’s Steve Holcombe has been crowned the 2017 Maxxis EnduroGP world champion at Zschopau finale in Germany, claiming the title on the opening day while dominating the weekend in the process.
Day one saw the newly-crowned champ negotiate the conditions with class, leading the field with a 20-second advantage at the chequered flag.
Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Christophe Nambotin of France maintained the runner-up spot, edging out Loic Larrieu (Outsiders Yamaha Racing), who grasped the final spot in the top three.
Australian favourite Matthew Phillips (CH Racing Sherco) slotted into fourth in what is was last weekend of grand prix enduro racing, while he was followed by the Honda-mounted Giacomo Redondi.
In the E2 class, Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing’s Daniel McCanney charged to an 11-second victory over Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Joseph Garcia, who finished narrowly ahead of Jamie McCanney (Outsiders Yamaha Racing).
Davide Guarneri (Honda Red Moto World Enduro Team) and Pascal Rauchenecker (Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing) were fourth and fifth respectively, as Australian Daniel Sander (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing) pushed through for seventh.
On day two, it was Holcombe who again stormed to a convincing victory despite having the title already wrapped, this time stamping his authority with a commanding 30-second advantage.
Larrieu and Nambotin traded positions in the second to wind up second and third respectively, as Phillips took fourth in final appearance ahead of Redondi. Phillips’ enduring season saw him finish up fourth in the championship standings.
Garcia was crowned the E2 world champion on the second and final day, while it was Jamie McAnney who stood on the top step of the podium.
Daniel McAnney positioned himself in second, a mere four-second behind the number one spot, while Eero Remes (TM Factory Racing) concluded the top three in third.
Guarneri backed up his result from day one with another fourth place finish ahead of the class champion Garcia, as Sanders mustered up 11th to finish eighth in the series standings.
