Home hero dominates for MXGP class overall in Britain on Sunday.
Great Britain’s Max Anstie put together a dream pair of moto performances as he helped steer his 2017 Motocross of Nations (MXoN) team to a podium finish in front of a home crowd at Matterley Basin over the weekend.
Aboard his Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing entry, Anstie won both the opening and final motos of the event to take top honours in the MXGP category and join his teammates Dean Wilson and Tommy Searle on the overall podium in third position.
It was ‘an amazing feeling’ according to the MXGP World Championship regular as he described his impressive MXoN sweep and overall podium finish for Great Britain at the most prestigious event on the international motocross calendar.
“Getting two moto wins and seeing our team finish on the podium is an amazing feeling,” said Anstie. “My teammates and myself have done well this weekend. We all put in a great effort into the nations and it’s great to bring Team Great Britain on the box in front of our home crowd.
“For me these two moto wins feel like a dream come true. I’ve always wanted to get a win in the MXGP class and now I’ve got two victories at the most prestigious event of the season. In moto one I got the lead quite early and just tried to stay focused and hit my lines correctly. Then in moto two we had a good battle with Febvre and eventually I managed to come out on top – it’s an unreal feeling.”
Joining the British standout on the overall MXGP podium was former world champion Tim Gajser in second position followed by Gautier Paulin of the winning French team in third spot.
Anstie’s Great Britain trio finished just one point out of second position on the overall podium with teammates Dean Wilson and Tommy Searle scoring 7-8 and 37-15 moto scores respectively.
