Queensland venue to book-end Australian Supercross Championship.
Jimboomba X Stadium is set to host the opening round of the 2017 Australian Supercross Championship later this month on 23 September, in what is anticipated to be one of the most exciting rounds of the new season.
Expecting a capacity crowd of around 8000-8500 and with improved VIP facilities, Jimboomba has become a mainstay on the AUS Supercross schedule under the SB Promotions organisation led by passionate Queensland promoter Scott Bannan.
Headed by the SX1 (450) and SX2 (250) categories, joined by the Junior Lites and Junior 150/85 championship divisions and an assortment of off-track entertainment, Jimboomba will feature as both the first and final rounds of the 2017 series. Last year the series wrapped up as part of AUS-X Open Sydney.
“Jimboomba’s a good venue, it’s proven and we will have a different track for both events,” Scott Bannan told MotoOnline.com.au. “We really want to emphasize the championship and make it a big deal this year. In 2015 we did J1 and J2, but that was a bit rushed and we never had the chance to promote the second event properly, so crowds were a bit down.
“Hopefully the championships go down to the wire and it will make it even better to round of the season as well. The championship’s wide-open this year, which is always a positive thing for the sport, plus we also have the junior championship this year, which is a big thing for me as a promoter.”
The 2017 edition is shaping up to be a close fight for the title with top domestic racers including national supercross number two Dean Ferris (CDR Yamaha) and Dan Reardon (MEGA Fuels Monster Energy Kawasaki) both returning amongst a highly-talented field. Although yet to be announced, it’s also expected defending champion Justin Brayton will return with Honda Racing.
