Kawasaki rider relieved to wrap up elusive Pro Motocross title.
Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Eli Tomac is at a loss for words after being crowned the 2017 Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross 450MX champion last weekend at Ironman’s season finale.
Tomac captured his first premier class title with a 17-point advantage over rival Marvin Musquin (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing), racing to 5-6 moto scores for sixth overall at the 12th and final round.
The number three reflected on the day, expressing his relief of finally clinching the championship that has eluded him for a number of years.
“That was not easy at all,” Tomac commented. “I went back after the first moto and thought ‘is it really going like this?’ I think I let my ego get the best of me in the first moto and needed to take it all in before the second moto.
“We went out there and did what we needed to do. This [championship] has been a long time coming and it feels amazing to finally accomplish it. I’m kind of at a loss for words right now.”
Despite the season coming to an end, the newly-crowned champion still has plenty of racing to contend for the remainder of 2017, such as next weekend’s MXGP of USA set to be hosted by the WW Motocross Park in Florida.
