MXGP regular dominates Ironman national in one-off showing.
Red Bull KTM Factory Racing rider and MXGP regular Jeffrey Herlings has recalled his phenomenal 1-1 performance at Ironman’s final round of the 2017 Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship last weekend.
Herlings’ American motocross debut had been greatly anticipated amongst the industry, with the Dutchman putting on a show at the 12th stop of the prestigious series.
“I was fastest all day, from practice to the first moto and the second moto,” Herlings commented. “I was so mad at myself for crashing in the second moto, so I just kept charging the entire time.
“I kind of got lucky that Marvin [Musquin] crashed there at the end, but it doesn’t matter, I got a 1-1 and proved I was the best today.”
Herlings praised the efforts of the US-based factory KTM outfit, who accommodated the multi-time champion for his special one-off appearance.
“For my first race here in America I think it’s pretty impressive and I’m happy with it,” he continued. “The team was amazing, to put a bike together in such a short time, and only having one day of testing – they were great.”
The KTM rider will now return to his regular role in the MXGP World Championship, with the 17th round scheduled for this weekend at the WW Motocross Park in Florida.
