New South Welshman slated for MXGP debut next month.
Australian international Hayden Mellross believes his appearances at the final two rounds of the Motul MX Nationals with DPH Motorsport Yamaha was the right decision, as he prepares to head back to America for the MXGP of USA next month.
Mellross secured fourth overall at Toowoomba’s penultimate round just over a week ago with 2-10 results, while a mechanical malfunction in race one at Coolum saw him bow out of the race, bouncing back for fourth in the final outing.
The New South Welshman, who hadn’t raced an outdoor in 12 months prior, explained the guest appearances have provided him with added direction for the upcoming Australian Supercross Championship later next month.
“For my races this weekend, things just didn’t go my way,” Mellross reflected. “I had good speed, and great starts but I was just off the pace needed to win.
“It was definitely the right decision to race these last rounds as I’ve got some direction to keep working and really fire into the first supercross round.”
After making his debut in the world championship in Florida on 3 September, Mellross will take aim at securing the SX2 title in Australia, with the series set to commence on 23 September, at Jimboomba in Queensland.
