Former world champion Romain Febvre made a welcomed return to the winners circle at Sweden’s 16th stop on the MXGP World Championship calendar, claiming the moto two race victory, marking his first of 2017.

The Monster Energy Yamaha Factory Racing rider qualified second before lodging a credible 6-1 scorecard for second overall, another first for the Frenchman in the current racing season.

Febvre looked to be inline for an overall with a strong showing in the initial stages of race one, although he would crash out of the lead, ultimately denying him the top spot at the conclusion of the day. His backed up his early performance to take a commanding win in his second outing.

“It was a good weekend overall,” said Febvre. “I had almost two holeshots, in the first moto I was leading from the first lap but I crashed on my own and then got hit by Max Nagl once I was back on my bike, so I crashed again.

“I still came back to sixth, so I know my speed was good. I just feel that I should have won the first race, but in the second race I led every single lap and won. I am happy to be back on the podium, I want to thank my team and also all of my sponsors that still believe in me.”

Febvre is set complete the last three rounds of the world championship before representing Team France at the Monster Energy FIM Motocross of Nations at Matterley Basin, Great Britain, on 1 October.
