Kawasaki rider salvages sixth in tough final motocross round.
Mega Fuels Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Brett Metcalfe was still feeling the affects of his Toowoomba crash last weekend at the final round of the Motul MX Nationals in Coolum, Queensland.
The experienced international posted 6-5 results for sixth overall, which was far from how the South Australian intended to conclude his full-time return to the domestic series.
Metcalfe revealed he was looking forward to the only sand circuit on the calendar, however admitted his body was still feeling tight throughout the weekend.
“I was looking forward to coming to Coolum, a sand track that I’d heard a lot about,” Metcalfe reflected. “I didn’t have the day I’d hoped for, but – no excuses – my body was a little tight from that crash last week at Toowoomba.
“To come into what is probably the roughest track on the circuit, it didn’t help. It was a consistent, steady day and I didn’t get good starts, so I made it hard for myself, but all in all I’m happy to get the series finished.”
This season saw the number 24 initially commence with the SD3 Husqvarna outfit, before departing and taking on a privately backed one-round effort aboard a KTM at his home round in Murray Bridge.
Metcalfe was granted a lifeline for the second half with an opening at Kawasaki vacated by Aleksandr Tonkov, allowing him to ride out the final five rounds. He recorded his best results of the year with the Troy Carroll-operated squad, ultimately completing the championship in seventh position.
