Penrite CRF Honda Racing’s Kyle Webster has made the most of a tough day at the office at Sunday’s (August 13) ninth round of the MX Nationals staged at the spectacular Echo Valley circuit at Toowoomba in south-east Queensland.

Lining up in the fiercely contested MX2 championship, Webster carded another pair of top ten finishes (8-7) in the day’s two points paying motos, to wind out the round in eighth place and in the process continue to hold down fifth overall in the championship, with just one round remaining.

A crash in the morning’s Qualifying session left Webster with an arm injury and saw him post the 11th fastest time in class, which in turn meant he didn’t gain a favourable choice of start gate position.

“That’s definitely not the start to the day you want,” Webster rued after the event.

“Then in the first moto, I got a bad start and really just struggled to get going in the first few laps,” Webster continued, “and by that stage I had lost touch with the group ahead of me, and I eventually finished the race in eighth place.”

While determined to regroup for the second moto, Webster’s challenging day continued with another lacklustre start.

“In the second moto I got another average start and after everything settled down, I ended up battling with Dylan Wills (Husqvarna) for almost the entire moto,” said Webster, who debuted the 2018 range of Fly riding gear at Toowoomba.

“I finished seventh in the second race, which gave me eighth overall on the day, but it was just one of those days.”

Webster continues to hold down fifth place in the championship standings with 446 points, behind front runners Wilson Todd (Yamaha) on 550, Egan Mastin (KTM) on 547, Mitch Evans (Yamaha) with 536 and Hamish Harwood (KTM) on 479.

Just one round remains in the ten event 2017 MX Nationals championship chase, with the grand finale to be staged at Coolum on the Queensland Sunshine Coast next Sunday, August 20.

Webster is hoping to end the MX season on a high next weekend, before turning to supercross mode with the kick-off to the 2017 Australian Supercross Championship next month.

“Coolum is going to be really important to end the MX season in a big way,” Webster enthuses.

“I want to come out swinging next weekend and ride like I know how to and end the motocross season on a positive.”

Meanwhile the Penrite CRF Honda Racing team’s MX1 rider Joel Wightman continues to be missing from racing, as he recovers from injuries suffered in a crash at the fourth round of the East Coast MX Series at Maitland.

Today (Monday, August 14) the Penrite CRF Honda Racing team will support a special riding clinic being staged at Queensland Moto Park, the proceeds of which will assist Australia’s team competing in the Motocross of Nations world teams championship being held at Matterly Basin in the UK on October 1.

Then the MX Nationals will wrap up with the grand finale at Coolum next Sunday (August 20), where once again the Penrite CRF Honda Racing team will be amongst the thick of the on-track action.
