South Australian chasing elusive overall victory in Queensland.
Mega Fuels Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Brett Metcalfe says he will draw upon the additional time and experience with the team as he endeavours to lock in an overall victory that has eluded him all year long.
This weekend’s ninth round of the Motul MX Nationals in Toowoomba, Queensland, marks the penultimate stop of the series, meaning the South Australian only has two more opportunities to pilot his KX450F to the top step of the podium.
Metcalfe fell short of the top three at Port Macquarie two weeks ago, however demonstrated incredible pace as he worked his way through the field in both outings.
“We’re looking for a better result this round, but I’m happy with the way I’ve been riding,” Metcalfe explained. “Last round on paper, it doesn’t look like we were that competitive, but I was fast in both races and I think we were closing on the lead the whole time during the motos.
“This weekend we’ll be looking at trying to improve on the start position and riding aggressive early in the race and then letting the race unfold. The more time that’s passing with the team and the bike, the better things are getting. So we’re just looking to capitalise on that added experience and the goal is to get on the top step.”
The experienced international rider made a mid-season switch the Queensland-based outfit, just days prior to Nowra’s sixth round of the series. He now sits eighth in the standings despite being absent from a round, with a higher position still in reach as the championship comes to a close.
