Clean-sweep for Dunlop at Port Macquarie MX Nationals round

Dunlop Tyres press release:

It was a dominant weekend for Dunlop-equipped racers at Port Macquarie’s eighth round of the 2017 MX Nationals series on the mid-north coast of New South Wales.

CDR Yamaha’s Dean Ferris made his way back to the top step of the podium in the premier MX1 class after capturing the top Super Pole spot and both moto victories on the day.

An impressive seventh overall victory of the year now places the defending champion 75 points ahead of KTM Motocross Racing Team’s Kirk Gibbs in the championship chase with two rounds remaining.

In the MX2 class it was Davey Motorsport KTM’s Egan Mastin who captured his second-straight overall victory at round eight, the two-stroke mounted racer from Newcastle dominating both motos for a 1-1 sweep.

Behind Mastin it was current points leader Wilson Todd who occupied the runner-up spot. Aboard his DPH Motorsport Yamaha the Victoria-based teenager rode to a consistent 2-2 finish to edge out Serco Yamaha’s Mitch Evans in third.

Mastin’s second overall victory of the season places him second in points one marker ahead of Evans in third and 13 behind series leader Todd who gained a valuable championship buffer in Port Macquarie.

In the MXD category it was the Yamalube Yamaha Racing duo of Cody Dyce and Cooper Pozniak who stole the show aboard their Dunlop-shod YZ250F machines.

Development class rookie Dyce kicked off the day by securing the 2017 championship during the opening 20-minute moto as his teammate Pozniak put together a 2-2 day to claim the overall victory and third in the series.

SD3 Husqvarna’s Caleb Barham was third overall on the day after emerging victorious in moto one before returning with a fifth in the second moto to wrap up the year.

“What a weekend for Dunlop here at Port Macquarie,” said Dunlop national motorcycle manager Sebastian Mincone. “With Dean, Egan and Cooper claiming round wins and Cody the MXD title, we couldn’t be happier with the round eight outcome. We now look forward to continued success at the upcoming rounds as the MX1 and MX2 titles prepare to be decided in Queensland.”

The 2017 MX Nationals will take a brief one-week break before returning at Toowoomba in Queensland on 13 August for round nine.
