Rounds seven and eight of the Australian Off-Road Championship welcomed the return of traditional enduro format that tested riders and their machines. Riders faced up to seven hours in the saddle and eight special tests in a single day which left no margin for error.

The Motul Pirelli Sherco Team fielded a three-rider attack on the two days of racing at Kyogle in norther NSW. Derek Grundy sealed his fate for the 2017 Championship, winning the Master’s Class for riders over 45 years by claiming the Class win on both days.

Meanwhile, Andy Wilksch remained consistent with fifth place in the premiere E2 Class aboard the Sherco 300 SEF-R. Despite finding the technical conditions difficult, Wilksch remained positive and is edging closer towards the pointy end of the Championship points.

“I wasn’t all that comfortable this weekend,” stated Wilksch. “The terrain was awesome but I wasn’t able to conquer it. I definitely improved over the weekend so that is a positive and I had a ball on the bike. I don’t get to ride that type of terrain unless I am racing it but the bike was perfect in those conditions and I loved riding it. The support of the team back in the pits makes racing an enduro so much easier than doing it on your own so in all it was still a fun yet slightly frustrating weekend of racing for me.”

Kate Norman showed guts and determination to complete the weekend of racing after a crash early on Saturday. Despite nursing an injury, the popular Sherco racer was able to post 6th place results on both days and now sits comfortably in 5th place for the Championship.

“Kate had a big crash on Saturday on the first loop and she rode on in pain all Saturday,” said Motul Pirelli Team manager Dave Suter. “Kate struggled through it but showed a lot of spirit. She rode better on Sunday despite stating it was the hardest race she’s ever done. She found that switching her 300 SEF-R to the soft map definitely assisted her ability to negotiate the track. That map switch is an incredibly useful tool for racing.”

The Motul Pirelli Sherco team will content the final two rounds of the 2017 Australian Off-Road Championship on August 5 & 6 at Omeo in Victoria.
