Despite a bitterly cold and frosty start to the day, Penrite CRF Honda Racing team rider Kyle Webster turned up the heat at round seven of the MX Nationals championship at Shepparton, Victoria, today (Sunday, July 16) by punching out two strong third place podium positions in the hotly contested MX2 division.

Just four points separated the top four overall MX2 placegetters on the day, with Webster’s score of 3-3 in the motos giving him a close fourth overall on the day behind arch rivals Wilson Todd (Yamaha), Egan Mastin (KTM) and Mitch Evans (Yamaha).

Importantly Webster’s dual podium performance at Shepparton gave him a 60 championship point haul for the day, which has seen him leap-frog past Dylan Wills (KTM) to take over sixth place in the MX2 standings, with just three rounds of the prestigious national series to run.

“Overall it was a good day,” Webster beamed after the Shepparton round, “although it didn’t start off that well when I snapped a gear lever on the first lap of Qualifying …

“But other than that, the two races actually went really well and even though the track was really rutted and technical, I got a good flow going in both motos and just got into a good rhythm and was pretty happy to finish third each time out.

“It was a bit of a bummer that two third placings only got me fourth overall for the round, because the points were so tight between us, but that’s just the way it works out sometimes when the scores are tallied.

“Nevertheless, it was a great round for me, and my Penrite CRF Honda Racing CRF250R was running strong the whole time, so I have to pay thanks to my mechanic, Mick, and all the team for all their support.” Webster added.

With just three rounds of the MX Nationals remaining, Webster is keen for more podium performances to end the championship chase on a high.

“I feel like I’ve just been building and building on my entire race programme over recent weeks and months, so my plan is to keep that momentum going,” says Webster of his game plan for the business end of the MX Nationals season.

“I just want to keep putting in the effort and then hopefully see the results in return and keep climbing up the rankings – that’s my goal, simple as that.”

In the Under 19 years MXD ranks, Penrite CRF Honda Racing team youngster Nick Luksich took to the track at Shepparton, pushing his CRF250R to 27th overall following 29-22 placings in the day’s two motos. Nick continues to hold down 23rd place in the MXD championship standings.

Meanwhile the Penrite CRF Honda Racing team’s MX1 rider Joel Wightman continues to be missing from action, as he recovers from injuries suffered in a crash at last month’s fourth round of the NSW East Coast MX Series at Maitland.

The MX Nationals continue with round eight at Port Macquarie in NSW on Sunday, July 30, before maintaining the long run north to the final two rounds in Queensland (at Toowoomba and Coolum) in August, where once again the Penrite CRF Honda Racing team will be amongst the thick of the on-track action.
