Tomac extends points lead with dominant Southwick victory
Osborne continues winning streak in 250MX category.
Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Eli Tomac raced to a perfect 1-1 scorecard at Southwick’s seventh round of the 2017 AMA Pro Motocross Championship, extending his points lead to 19 in the process.
Tomac put in a highly impressive performance to take his second-consecutive victory, solidifying himself as the championship favourite as the series passes the halfway mark.
Rocky Mountain ATV/MC KTM’s Blake Baggett strung together a pair of second place finishes to complete the day runner-up, while Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing’s Dean Wilson earned his first premier class podium with 6-3 results.
The top five was rounded out by Cooper Webb (Monster Energy/Yamalube/Chaparral/Yamaha Financial Services/Yamaha Racing) and Martin Davalos (Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing), while championship contender Marvin Musquin (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing) recorded a DNF in race two following a large crash.
In the 250MX class, Zach Osborne (Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing) continued his string of overall victories, concluding the demanding day with 2-1 finishes while taking a firmer grip on the championship lead.
Osborne was awarded the win on count back after tying points with Yamalube Star Racing Yamaha’s Dylan Ferrandis, who raced to the opening moto win.
Troy Lee Designs Red Bull KTM’s Alex Martin closed out the podium in third, while RJ Hampshire (GEICO Honda) and Jeremy Martin (GEICO Honda) completed the top five.
