Highly-rated Queenslander Jesse Dobson has signed an elusive deal with Yarrive Konsky’s title-winning SX1 organisation to contest the 2017 Australian Supercross Championship with backing from Penrite and Honda in the premier category.

Contesting select events this season including the Penrite Hattah Desert Race in July, the 20-year-old looks forward to contesting the entire supercross series aboard a Honda CRF450R as he works towards his international racing goals.

“It’s all coming together and I’m pretty pumped about that,” Dobson told MotoOnline.com.au. “It sucks that I haven’t been lining up at every MX Nationals round, but my goal is supercross, I want to be a supercross rider and obviously try to go to America.

“For me it’s good, I’ve got a good opportunity with Honda and the people around me, that’s what I’ve been waiting for and I think if it all goes to plan we should be able to get some good results for supercross.”

Making his first Australian appearance at the Conondale MX Nationals round last weekend where impressed to finish seventh overall in the MX1 class, Dobson isn’t ruling out further outdoor appearances this year and is looking ahead to the popular Hattah event.

“At the moment I’m just going with the flow,” he explained. “I’m still riding and training, but if there’s a round that interests me, I’m going to do it, but if there’s nothing that really interests me, I’ll just keep training and getting ready for supercross.

“On the weekend at Conondale I felt good fitness-wise and speed-wise, so there could be a possibility of me doing a few more rounds this year and I will also be racing the Penrite Hattah Desert Race, which will be cool.”

Dobson will make his supercross debut with Honda at the season-opening round of the six-round series on 23 September at Jimboomba in Queensland. The defending champion Honda team, which clinched the crown last year with Justin Brayton, is yet to announce its final roster.
