Former national champion Taylor claims runner-up spot.
Former professional racer Cody Mackie claimed the first overall victory of the 2017 Yamaha 125cc Gold Cup series at Conondale’s third round of the Motul MX Nationals in Queensland.
Making its debut at Conondale, the new 125cc two-stroke category was swept by Mackie as he rode his Husqvarna to strong victories in both motos on the day.
Behind Mackie it was former national champion Cameron Taylor who set the pace early with the top qualifying result before logging two runner-up finishes for the second spot on the podium aboard his Yamaha.
Behind Mackie and Taylor it was Kerrod Morrissy who claimed the final step on the podium thanks to consistent results throughout both motos.
Morrissy used a 4-3 moto combination to edge out Clay Kilvington for the third-place spot followed by Steven Powell in fifth to round out the top five.
The Yamaha 125cc Gold Cup will return at Shepparton’s seventh round of the 2017 Motul MX Nationals series on 16 July in Victoria.
