Wilson Coolair Motul Suzuki press release:
Watch for Wilson Coolair Motul Factory Suzuki teammates Kyle Peters and Luke Wilson to factor in the race for the 2017 MX Nationals championship when the gates drop on the opening round at Wonthaggi in Victoria this Sunday.
American import Peters has had a mega pre-season that’s included contesting multiple rounds of the AMA Eastern Regional 250SX series with JGRMX Suzuki in the US, before arriving in Australia this month to focus on his MX1 championship aspirations aboard the RM-Z450.
Peters starred on debut in the MX Nationals last season by scoring Super Pole and winning a moto on his way to second overall at Toowoomba, however this time around he’s back for a full season and expects to be in contention for the title from round one.
“I had a really good off-season and made a lot of progress with the bike and myself personally,” 23-year-old Peters commented. “Heading into round one I’m as confident as I’ve ever been and I know how fit and ready I am. I’m going in there to win.
“It’s always a good thing to be on the gate racing and I feel like those supercross rounds I did back home really helped out with my intensity. We couldn’t have asked for a better pre-season really, so I’m stoked with how it’s all coming along. I can’t wait to get the season started.”
As for Gold Coast-based teammate Wilson, he is looking to improve upon his 12th-place finish in last year’s MX1 title-chase and has also enjoyed a productive build-up to the opener, including a test at Wonthaggi during the official MX Nationals launch. Working closely with Peters will also be a major asset as the season progresses.
“Everything’s been going really good in the pre-season and I’m excited for round one,” Wilson explained. “I now have Luke Jones as my mechanic and he’s been a massive help, just the knowledge he has and it’s all been going in the right direction. I feel like I’m out of that rut that I’d been stuck in for the last couple of years, so I am looking forward to seeing where we’re at.
“Being my second year on the RM-Z450 this season, I learned a lot riding MX1 again last year and am comfortable lining up behind the gate with everyone. There’s nothing new for me this time, so the plan is to go and do what I do to get the best possible result for the Wilson Coolair Motul Factory Suzuki team.”
Round one of the 2017 MX Nationals will take place at Wonthaggi in Victoria this Sunday, 2 April. Visit the official series website at www.mxnationals.com.au for further information.
