Gajser completes clean-sweep of Argentine MXGP
Jonass wins both MX2 races in difficult round for the Aussies.
Team Honda HRC’s reigning MXGP world champion was unstoppable in round three of the 2017 season at Neuquen, Argentina, after scoring pole and both moto victories.
The 1-1 scorecard of Gajser has boosted him to the top of the championship standings following three rounds, winning the overall from Jeremy Van Horebeek (Monster Energy Yamaha) and Honda teammate Evgeny Bobryshev.
Previous title-leader Antonio Cairoli (Red Bull KTM) encountered one of the more difficult rounds, claiming seventh overall via ninth in race one and fifth in race two. Teammate Jeffrey Herlings went 12-7 for ninth overall.
In the MX2 division Pauls Jonass (Red Bull KTM) continued his impressive form, winning both motos to take the overall from teammate Jorge Prado Garcia and championship leader Jeremy Seewer (Team Suzuki World MX2).
Seewer’s rookie Australian teammate Hunter Lawrence was 18th overall this weekend after finishing 13th in moto one and 18th in the second, while countryman Jay Wilson (iFly JK Yamaha) went 21-21 for 24th overall.
8Biano Racing Husqvarna rider Caleb Ward crashed heavily in the qualifying race on Saturday, choosing not to race after injuring his shoulder and wrist in the incident.
