Victorian to contest Melbourne and Sydney AUS Supercross rounds.
Former Australian motocross and supercross regular Cheyne Boyd will return to racing this weekend at Melbourne’s fourth round of the 2016 Australian Supercross Championship.
Boyd initially retired from fulltime racing in 2012, however he has since made several appearances at select MX Nationals and Australian supercross events.
The popular Victorian revealed to MotoOnline.com.au that he will contest Saturday night’s fourth round, as well as Sydney’s double-header season finale the following weekend, which will run in conjunction with the prestigious AUS-X Open.
“I still have that drive to put myself through the pain and do all of the hard work,” Boyd explained. “95 percent of the time I’m doing it anyway when I’m riding at the park. I wanted to do some motocross races this year, but it just didn’t work out – it’s been our biggest year as far as numbers through the gate at the ride park.”
“My aim has been to do selected events, I think a full series is out of the picture. I did Sydney and Melbourne last year, and I’ll pretty much do the same again this year.”
The Yamaha Park4MX owner is maintaining a realistic outlook heading into the final three rounds, and reflected upon his results from last year as an indication of where he could potentially sit amongst the field.
“If I felt I was slow and was going to get in the way, I wouldn’t be doing it,” he continued. “I still feel that I ride fairly strong and consistent, and my pace is not bad. Where I slot in, realistically, I think it’s somewhere between fifth and 10th.”
“Last year, in all three races including the two at Sydney, I went 9-6-4. Fingers crossed that I can get a good start, stay out of trouble and do the best that I can,” he added.
Boyd is also intending on racing Australia’s first straight rhythm event, which is scheduled to take place in Tasmania one week after the AUS-X Open.
