2016 Australian Supercross Championship kicks off in Jimboomba, Queensland.
The 2016 Australian Supercross Championship is set to kick off this Saturday, 17 September, in Jimboomba Queensland for the first of six scheduled rounds.
Form
Our picks:
Dan Reardon (SX1) – The defending champion has been focusing on supercross only since his early exit from the 2016 motocross series due to injury. He may not be at 100 percent health, but the CDR Yamaha rider is on home soil, on familiar equipment and will be tough to top.
Jimmy Decotis (SX2) – Decotis is the reigning SX2 champion and will return on familiar equipment for 2016. He has his hands full with a list of strong contenders, but his speed, experience and comfort level on Australian circuits will be tough to match.
Next best:
Justin Brayton (SX1) – Brayton is a world-class supercross rider and will certainly be right up there battling for the win. His raw supercross speed and arenacross background will be a solid combination on the smaller Australian circuits.
Gavin Faith (SX2) – Faith, a multi-time Australian SX2 champion, will be strong on return to the class after stepping up to SX1 in 2015. It’s a toss up between Faith and Decotis, these guys will be on fire.
Outside chances:
Kade Mosig (SX1) – Mosig claimed second overall in the 2015 series and is looking for redemption following a motocross series that didn’t turn out the way he had hoped.
Jackson Richardson (SX2) – Returning to Australia and joining the Serco Yamaha squad, Richardson will be dangerous out there. After finishing second last year to Decotis, the Queenslander will be shooting for that top spot.
Watch for:
SX1 – Kyle Peters, Todd Waters, Jay Wilson, Jesse Dobson, Dean Ferris, Lawson Bopping, Jay Marmont
SX2 – Hayden Mellross, Dylan Wills, Wilson Todd, Wade Hunter, Josh Cachia, Geran Stapleton, Mitch Evans
