Unsung performances that caught our attention on Sunday.
MotoOnline.com.au highlights three standout performances from the weekend’s 10th round of the 2016 Motul MX Nationals on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland. Radar isn’t strictly about the winners, it’s about the unsung racers that we spot performing above expectations on any given race weekend.
Hamish Harwood (KTM) – MX1, seventh overall/MX2, sixth overall:
Davey Motorsports KTM rider Hamish Harwood decided to take on double duties at Coolum, contesting both the MX1 and MX2 categories. Despite riding more laps than any of his competitors, he recorded some of his best results of the season, narrowly missing out on the top five in each class.
James Alen (KTM) – MX1, ninth overall:
Victorian James Alen snuck into the top 10 at Coolum matching his best overall finish of the year. The KTM-mounted privateer raced to a consistent 11-12 scorecard, awarding him ninth overall and positioning him 14th in the championship standings.
Geran Stapleton (Honda) – MX2, seventh overall:
After missing the previous nine rounds of the MX Nationals, Geran Stapleton entered Coolum with a point to prove on a Honda dressed in plain black and white plastics while wearing gear from 2012. The Victorian displayed two impressive performances within the top 10, crediting him a well-earned seventh overall.
