Verdict:
Kirk Gibbs (KTM Factory Motocross Racing) entered Coolum with a six-point advantage over Dean Ferris (CDR Yamaha), however after failing to score points in the GoPro Superpole which Ferris claimed maximum points in, his lead was reduced to three before racing commenced. The CDR Yamaha rider raced to the opening moto win ahead of Todd Waters (Wilson Coolair Motul Suzuki) and Kyle Peters (NPE Monster Energy Kawasaki), rewarding him with a comfortable points buffer heading into the final moto. While Ferris maintained the early lead in race two, he played it safe as Waters hunted him down, settling for second behind the Suzuki rider to clinch his first Australian Motocross Championship. Gibbs was in the thick of the battle early on, however his pace dropped in the later stages of the race to finish the day in third.

Verdict:
Following the absence of injured series leader Nathan Crawford (Husqvarna), the MX2 title was going to land into the hands of either Jed Beaton (DPH Yamaha) or Caleb Ward (KTM Factory Motocross Racing). Beaton carried the points advantage into the round, and following two phenomenal performances, he was credited the overall victory and presented with the MX2 Australian Motocross Championship. Serco Yamaha’s Wilson Todd scored his first podium of the year following his 4-1 scorecard, while Caleb Ward put in his best effort, however he just wasn’t able to match the pace of Todd and Beaton.
