Motul MX Nationals series heads to Toowoomba in Queensland.
The 2016 Motul MX Nationals returns to Queensland this weekend for round nine of the 10-round championship in Toowoomba.
Form
Our picks:
Kirk Gibbs (MX1) – The competition is tough up front in the MX1 category, it’s a tough choice to pick the top rider, but you have to recognise Gibbs’ impressive ability to avoid mistakes and remain consistent.
Nathan Crawford (MX2) – Going off last year’s results where Crawford topped Jed Beaton in the MX2 class, and the fact that Crawford will be riding slightly upset after losing the red plate at round eight, this guy will be on fire.
Next best:
Todd Waters (MX1) – Waters was seriously fast at Shepparton, if it wasn’t for a mistake off the start in moto two, he would almost certainly have claimed the overall. He has spent time on the Echo Valley circuit in past weeks and is eager to make a run at the MX1 title in this final two events.
Jed Beaton (MX2) – Beaton will be right there in Toowoomba, the track should suit his style too. Tied on points with Crawford, it’ll be crucial for Beaton to ride smart and avoid any mistakes.
Outside chances:
Dean Ferris (MX1) – It’s always tough choosing between Gibbs, Waters and Ferris, these guys are all so close. Ferris needs to cut those costly errors out of his motos and he’ll be very tough to beat for the overall.
Caleb Ward (MX2) – Ward is always super fast, it’s the consistency that hurts the factory KTM rider. If Ward can string together two solid motos, he’s a serious threat for the win and he still has a shot at this title just 15 points behind Beaton and Crawford.
Watch for:
MX1 – Kade Mosig, Dylan Long, Jay Wilson, Jacob Wright
MX2 – Jayden Rykers, Wilson Todd, Dylan Wills, Kale Makeham
