Sherco’s rise through the ranks of off-road racing continued at the Australian Off-Road Championship last weekend when a number of riders put in starring performances. Tasmania’s Masters Class racer Derek Grundy led the charge by cleaning up the division for riders over 45 years.

Racing his Motorcycle Scene Sherco 300SEF-R, Grundy was untouchable in the muddy conditions and dominated Saturday’s cross country event to win by a huge margin of 8-minutes. Grundy again dominated Sunday’s sprint event to take away the double header with maximum points.

NSW-based Sherco rider Bjorn Osbourne had an off weekend of racing by his usual standards, yet the Jeff’s Bikes & Bits rider still holds a whopping 20-point lead in the Veterans class for riders 35-45 years. Osbourne is clear favourite to take out the 2016 Championship.

The younger brigade of Sherco riders didn’t disappoint at Hedley despite the blizzard-like conditions. Motul Pirelli Sherco Academy Team’s Baylee Davies put in his best performance of the 2016 season with a great 6th place in the E1 Class on Saturday. The current Tasmanian Champion charged the sloppy conditions on his Motul Pirelli Sherco 250SEF-R Factory edition and placed 17th outright. Davies was 8th on Sunday and now sits in 6th place for the E1 Championship.

Motul Pirelli Sherco Academy Team’s Jai Wedlock was another strong performer on Saturday placing 5th in the Under-19 Class on his Powerhouse Motorcycles 300SEF-R.

“It’s really satisfying to see so many competitive riders racing on Sherco enduro bikes,” said Sherco Australia’s Stephen Tuff. “There were so many Sherco jackets getting around in the pits at Hedley it was clear to see we have a lot of support. And to see Sherco riders on the podium is proof of just how great these bikes are. The Sherco brand is on a roll and the momentum is building. It’s not just pro-class riders that appreciate these bikes. The greatest asset we have is how easy these bikes are to ride. When riders are comfortable they ride with confidence and a confident rider will always ride faster.”

The next stop on the AORC calendar will be at Monkerai, NSW for rounds 9 and 10 on August 13 and 14, 2016.
