Verdict:
National Pump Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Matt Moss will be ruing Nowra as ‘the one that got away’ after unforced errors in qualifying and the final moto ruined his chances of claiming his first round victory since Horsham. Moss was on a tear all weekend, claiming a comfortable victory in the first MX1 race, then got the better of CDR Yamaha’s round winner Dean Ferris after a 10-minute stoush in the second moto. Moss then pulled a small gap before hitting a rock and going down, handing the victory to Ferris in the process. Current red plate holder Kirk Gibbs (KTM Motocross Racing Team) maintained his rock-steady consistency despite jarring his knee in practice (scans to come), with a 4-3 result seeing him chalk up his fourth consecutive podium result and keep Ferris at arm’s length in the title chase. Aside from that, the likes of Corey James, a retired Craig Anderson and class debutant Kurt Gow also enjoyed strong showings inside the top 10 overall.

Verdict:
With the way KTM Motocross Racing Team’s Caleb Ward continues to slice up the MX2 field and slash the points gap on red plate holder Nathan Crawford (Husqvarna), it only seems like a matter of time before he regains the championship lead. Ward was on another level around the tight, technical Nowra circuit and his 1-1 result sees him now just nine points off the title lead. DPH Motorsport Yamaha’s Jed Beaton had a solid day in the saddle, with his brace of third places seeing him finish the day in second overall, ahead of Crawford. Early in the day National Pump Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Jake Moss established himself as the man to beat with a qualifying time half a second better than Ward, but two dismal starts, including crashing out of the final race on the opening lap, put paid to his chances of turning his season around. Other performers included Jayden Rykers in P4, Wilson Todd inside the top five and then Keiron Hall, Joel Wightman, Dylan Wills and Aaron Tanti all putting in strong local rides.
