CRF Honda Racing press release:
Round four of the Motul MX Nationals roared into life on Sunday (May 22) amongst the dark red loam of the popular Murray Bridge track in South Australia and saw CRF Honda Racing team riders Joel Wightman and Kyle Webster grind it out to take home a swag of points in the prestigious national championship chase.
Aboard their potent Honda CRF250R thumpers in the MX2 class, the CRF Honda Racing duo wound out the event with Wightman ninth overall by virtue of 11/9 placings in the day’s two championship races, while Webster finished 14th overall with a 15/11 scorecard.
“The Murray Bridge round was a step in the right direction for me,” said Wightman after the event. “Although my starts weren’t ideal, I fought hard and stayed on two wheels in both motos and made minimal mistakes, which put me ninth overall for the day, and keeps me in the hunt on the edge of the top ten in championship points.
So I’m really looking forward to the trip to WA for the next round and getting amongst it in the deep sand at Waneroo next weekend.”
After his mighty podium performance at round three at Broadford, Victoria, earlier this month, Webster was hoping to maintain the rage at Murray Bridge – but the new CRF Honda Racing team member had a tough day in South Australia.
“It was a pretty disappointing day for me,” Webster admitted. “I really struggled with my starts and making passes, and I didn’t feel like myself or was riding like I have been in the last couple of months.
“But I’m looking forward to getting back home to WA this week and getting back in the sand and racing the next round of the championship with lots of friends and family there.”
After four rounds of the MX2 championship, Webster is seventh in the series standings, while Wightman is 12th overall.
CRF Honda Racing will now focus on its next outing, which comes at round five of the MX Nationals at the gruelling sand-based Wanneroo track in WA on May 29.
