Proformance Yamaha’s Kale Makeham is likely to miss the next three rounds of the 2016 Motul MX Nationals championship after injuring his shoulder in a practice crash late last week.

The MX2 contender, who captured a moto win at Appin’s second round, took a high speed crash during a testing session resulting in a combination of shoulder injuries, one of which will require surgery.

“I was just out testing with the team, everything was going well and I just made a little mistake,” Makeham told MotoOnline.com.au. “It was actually a really high speed crash and I’m probably lucky to get away with the injuries I sustained.

“I dislocated my shoulder and it popped straight back in, but I tore my labrum pretty well and at this point the doctors are recommending surgery and I’ll probably go in for that in the next two weeks.”

With the lengthy mid-season break commencing after Wanneroo’s fifth round on 29 May, the Victorian hopes to use the five weeks to his advantage and miss a minimum amount of events ahead of his return.

“Hopefully it will only be around 2-3 months off from the bike,” he added. “With the mid-season break coming up I should only miss three rounds of racing and then I’ll be back to 100 percent for the final rounds of motocross and then supercross series.”

The Proformance Yamaha team at this stage has no plans to replace Makeham with a fill-in MX2 rider.
