Australian EMX250 contender continues strong form in Italy.
Following a breakthrough overall victory in the FIM World Motocross Championship EMX250 category in Germany, Australia’s Hunter Lawrence backed it up with a top five finish in Trentino on 15 May.
Despite crashing twice in moto one and coming from last place in moto two, the Monster Energy CLS Junior Team Green rider put together a 4-8 moto scorecard on the tricky circuit.
“To be honest it was not a great weekend for me; I had some bad luck and bad starts,” said Lawrence. “The qualifying session was not so good, didn’t have a clean lap and then didn’t get any good starts; I have to work on that.
“The track was really, really difficult to pass, especially on Saturday in moto one; I think I had two crashes and nearly crashed three more times.
“Moto two was not much better, I had some troubles on the starting line and was nearly last in the first corner. I pushed as hard as I could to come back to eighth. We’ll continue to work hard and I’m sure it will pay off.”
Lawrence currently sits second overall in the EMX250 championship standings, 31 points behind series leader and Trentino winner Thomas Kjer Olsen.
