Red Bull KTM’s multiple world champion Antonio Cairoli claimed his first MXGP World Championship round win of the 2016 season with an impressive double victory at Teutschenthal in Germany on Sunday.

Cairoli overcame in-form title leader Tim Gajser (Honda Gariboldi) and Evegeny Bobryshev (Team HRC Honda) for the overall, while a crash in the opening moto saw previous red plate holder Romain Febvre (Monster Energy Yamaha) finish fifth.

“I feel good for sure, although I still miss something,” said Cairoli. “The skills I have on this very difficult and technical track helped me to win today with a perfect score. Winning the qualification on Saturday and the two races today, it hasn’t happened often, but I gained some strength this week in my arm and I very happy about that. I feel better and when you feel better you can respond and go on the attack.”

New Zealand’s Ben Townley (Team Suzuki World MXGP) had his most consistent showing of the season with a pair of seventh places for sixth overall, although he still wasn’t satisfied at the end of the weekend.

In MX2 Jeffrey Herlings (Red Bull KTM) remains unbeaten in the 2016 title chase, taking out both motos for the overall ahead of Dylan Ferrandis (Monster Energy Kawasaki) and Jeremy Seewer (Team Suzuki World MXGP).

The Women’s Motocross World Championship saw Team One One Four’s Livia Lancelot take a second win of the weekend for the round, while Australian Madison Brown (Yamaha) finished 10th in race two for sixth overall. JCR Yamaha’s Courtney Duncan was unable to compete on Sunday after striking a photographer and crashing heavily the day prior.

It was a dream weekend for Australian rookie Hunter Lawrence (Monster Energy Kawasaki) in the EMX250 division, backing up his opening race victory with another dominant performance on Sunday. He’s now just 12 points outside of the series lead.
