Eight-time world champion working his way back to the top.
Following a strong second overall result at Argentina’s fourth round of the 2016 FIM Motocross World Championship, Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Antonio Cairoli has his sights set on race wins in the MXGP class.
The eight-time world champion put together a consistent 2-2 moto scorecard aboard his KTM 450 SX-F, moving himself up to third in points behind defending champion Roman Febvre and round four winner Tim Gajser.
“I’m very happy to be back in the podium after such a long time,” said Cairoli. “For sure it would have been nicer to win but it’s getting better and better. I feel that every weekend, and that’s a good improvement.
“The podium is good for sure and we moved up to third in the championship. I already saw I am feeling better in the first rounds and I knew for Argentina I could try to do my best, even if I am still not in my best condition.”
Cairoli feels he now has the raw speed to challenge for race wins, but admits he needs to find his rhythm in order to put it all together.
“I hope now to have a good condition and to feel I can win races,” he added. “At the moment I am fast for some laps but I know I am missing my rhythm a bit, but the race speed is there.”
Cairoli now sits 28 points behind series leader Febvre and 25 points behind MXGP rookie Gajser.
