Kawasaki Motors Australia press release:
Australian Women’s Motocross & Supercross champion, Meghan Rutledge, will be supported by Kawasaki Motors this year during a fulltime campaign in Australia aboard her KX450F and KX250F.
The allure of competing on the international stage was as strong as ever this year however Meghan has answered to the calling of racing down under in 2016.
“I’m looking forward to being in Australia for 12 months and competing on home soil,” said Meghan (Mad Meg) Rutledge, who has divided her efforts between racing in both Australia and internationally for the FIM Women’s World Motocross Championship over the last three years.
Meghan will be a force to be reckoned with aboard her Kawasaki KX250F in this year’s MX Nationals MX2 class and Women’s class. She will also be vying for the MX1 title and Women’s title in the NSW Motocross State Championship and potentially the Victorian State Championship.
“Anybody who knows me understands that I am always chasing a challenge. Getting my fitness back up and racing against the boys in the MX Nationals lights class is something that drives me and I will definitely be aiming for a top 10 finish in that.”
“I’m confident that I can take out the Women’s class in the MX Nationals and I want to race Supercross against the boys if it works out this year.” Meghan said.
“I love the KX250F and the new KX450F is a massive improvement on a machine that was already at the top of the game last year. These are the best bikes I have ever ridden and I couldn’t be doing what I am doing without these bike or the support from Kawasaki.”
A severe thumb injury put a halt to Meghan’s early charge in 2015, however pure dedication and an intense training routine has enabled her to bounce back.
“Injuring my thumb put a damper on things in 2015, but nothing is going to hold me back this year! I’ve recently bought a Kawasaki STX-15F from Newcastle Jet Ski Centre for training and that’s been a massive help. I go to the Gym just about every weekday. I swim and I am training on my bikes every weekend,” Meghan commented.
“It’s the adrenaline rush, most other sports become boring after a while so I am grateful to be doing what I love and I can’t wait to get the racing underway this year.”
Meghan will kick off her season at the first round of the NSW State Motocross Championship in Canberra over the Easter weekend, where she will compete in both the MX1 and Women’s classes. Shortly after, Meghan will make her way to Horsham, Victoria for round 1 of the MX Nationals on April 3rd.
