MX1 contender makes last-minute departure from factory-backed outfit.
SD3 Husqvarna and Jacob Wright have parted ways ahead of the 2016 Motul MX Nationals, the shock announcement just weeks away from the 3 April season opening round in Victoria.
Husqvarna Australia’s brand manager Jon Hafey said he was disappointed in the split and confirmed that Husqvarna and the SD3 team will now begin to explore other options for the upcoming season.
“Despite everyone’s best attempts to be open and up front from the start, unfortunately our expectations and Jacob’s have proven not to be in alignment,” Hafey said. “The best thing is for both parties to pursue separate options. Husqvarna Australia and SD3 are now exploring some new project ideas so watch this space.”
SD3 Husvarna team owner Stephen McKinnon is equally disappointed in the departure of the talented 20-year-old MX1 contender from his team. It’s unclear what he will do moving forward following an injury-filled last season.
“Naturally I’m disappointed that SD3 and Jacob will not be continuing our partnership,” said McKinnon. “Jacob is an outstanding talent and the team at SD3 wish him every success in the future.”
SD3 Husqvarna’s Luke Arbon will remain part of the team in 2016 contesting the MX2 category, while a possible replacement for Wright is yet to be discussed publicly.
