Harwood claims MX2 class overall victory.
CDR Yamaha’s Dean Ferris locked in another round win at Manawatu’s second round of the 2016 New Zealand Motocross Championships in the MX1 class.
Splitting moto wins with fellow Australian Todd Waters, Ferris used a 3-1-1 moto score card to take the top spot on the premier class podium ahead of the Suzuki rider.
Waters took the runner-up spot with his 1-2-2 moto finishes ahead of defending series champion and New Zealand native Cody Cooper who used a 2-3-3 score to round out the podium.
Ferris now sits 14 points clear of new second-ranked rider Waters, with Cooper slipping back to third overall, five points further back. Queenstown’s Scott Columb and Taupo’s Brad Groombridge round out the top five in the MX1 class.
In the MX2 category it was New Zealand’s Hamish Harwood who claimed victory on the sandy circuit, the MX Nationals regular increasing his overall championship lead in the process.
Behind Harwood it was Australia’s Jed Beaton who took the runner-up spot, the Yamaha-backed rider used a 4-1-2 moto score card to finish second ahead of Ethan Martens, Cohen Chase and Micah McGoldrick.
Harwood now leads the MX2 championship points by 12 over Beaton with Hadleigh Knight, Ethan Martens and Micah McGoldrick rounding out the top five.
Rotorua Motorcycle Club will host the third round of the 2016 New Zealand Motocross Championship on 13 March.
