A host of Australian Supercross Championship regulars have been ruled out of today’s second event of the AUS-X Open in Sydney following a bruising opening night.

Reigning national champion Matt Moss (Team Motul Suzuki) has bowed out of title contention with two crashes in Saturday’s main inside Allphones Arena – the second of his crashes putting him out of the weekend altogether.

Moss will undergo further medical evaluations this week to determine the extent of his injuries, but he’s now mathematically out of the SX1 title chase despite today’s racing not factoring as a championship round.

Also out of the premier class action is Luke Styke (KTM Motocross Racing Team) after a case injured his Achilles tendon/ankle and Adam Monea (NPS Monster Energy Kawasaki) underwent surgery on a badly broken right wrist yesterday sustained during a crunching practice crash.

The Serco Yamaha SX2 team will be absent altogether as Luke Clout recovers from niggling injuries, plus teammate Jed Beaton won’t line up again tonight after suffering a concussion yesterday afternoon.

Last night’s second-place podium finisher Wade Hunter has also been a late casualty, sitting out practice and qualifying, not expected to line-up in the racing program either. Ongoing shoulder injuries have also sidelined Dylan Wills (KTM Newcastle).

The show is still anticipated to be huge for the sport in Australia, telecast live on 7mate from 3:30pm local time and headlined by the likes of night one winner Chad Reed, Ricky Carmichael, Cooper Webb, red plate holder Dan Reardon, American SX2 ace Jimmy Decotis and US Arenacross number three Gavin Faith.
