Unsung performers we spotted in Queensland on Saturday night.
MotoOnline.com.au highlights three standout performances from the weekend’s fourth round of the 2015 Australian Supercross Championship at Jimboomba X Stadium, Queensland. Radar isn’t strictly about the winners, it’s about the unsung racers that we spot performing above expectations on any given race weekend.
Danny Ham (Maitland Motorcycles Suzuki) – SX1, ninth overall:
You’ve gotta hand it to old-school crowd pleaser Danny Ham, coming out of retirement for the 2016 season and consistently claiming strong points. A ninth place finish at Jimboomba sees him eighth in the standings with a couple of rounds to run and, as his form indicates, he’s gaining comfort with every lap posted.
Wade Hunter (DPH Peter Stevens Yamaha) – SX2, DNF:
Hard-luck story of the night had to go to Wade Hunter, who has been stellar on board the Peter Stevens-backed DPH Motorsport Yamaha in recent rounds. He won his heat but crashed out of the main event early on in a frustrating turn of events, but still, he’s proving he’s up there with the best in class this year.
Luke Wilson (Penrite Honda Wilson MX) – SX2, seventh overall:
Just one day after being confirmed on the new-look factory Suzuki MX1 team alongside Todd Waters for 2016, determined Queenslander Luke Wilson raced to an impressive seventh in the J2 main event. He was fourth in the heat race and carried that form into the main event, which will serve as a shot of confidence entering the AUS-X Open.
