Team Motul Suzuki’s Matt Moss raced to a fighting third place finish at the second round of the 2015 Australian Supercross Championship held in Jimboomba, Qld on Saturday the 17th of October.

Heading into the event fresh off a dominating display at the opening round of the championship last weekend at Bathurst, Moss continued to dominate proceedings aboard his 2016 Suzuki RM-Z450 at Jimboomba, topping qualifying by nearly a full second.

The regining two time Australian Supercross Champion continued his winning form when racing kicked off, racing to a comfortable heat race win and then thrilling the crowd with an exciting Dash for Cash feature race victory.

“The day started off well for us, I topped qualifying and continued my winning run through the heats and dash for cash, which is a big positve,” Moss commented.

When the gates dropped on the nights all important main event, Moss once again fired himself to the front of the field where he engaged in a battle for the lead with championship rival Dan Reardon.

After a flurry of passes back and fourth Moss moved himself into the leading position and was ready to put the hammer down, when was forced to roll an entire rhythm section due to a downed rider.
Unfortunately for Moss after rolling past the downed rider he elected to run the inside of the next turn, running his front wheel into a rock causing him to crash.

Remounting in 8th position, Moss set about keeping his main event winning streak alive and quickly charged his way back through the field and had moved his way into fourth position when his hand momentarily slipped of the handle bars at the end of a technical rhythm section. Unable to reach his front brake, Moss was unable to pull up in time for the corner ahead, forcing him to run into a fellow competitor, crashing over the back side of the berm himself.

A quick recovery had the number one plated Suzuki back on track without dropping a position, with Moss charging to the finish line to salvage a third place result and in the process keeping himself well and truly in this years championship hunt.

“It was a bit of a disappointing effort in the main event,” Moss commented. “I got out front early and battled with Reardon and had just made my way back into the lead when we came through the section with the Yellow flags waving.

“At the end of the section I went to the inside of the corner and dropped it.” “I knew I was not to far back, so I went on a charge and was coming through the field when I went step on step off in the same section and my hand slipped and I collected Gibbsy going into the corner.

“That was the biggest bummer of the night, I did not mean to take out Gibbs, he is one of the riders I respect the most out on the track and I apologised to him straight after the race.

“After everything that happened tonight, to walk away from tonight with a podium result after crashing twice is a good result, not the result we were after but still a good result on what could have been a bad night. “We are still right there in the mix at the top of the points and will go back home, work hard and be ready for round three at Wayville.”

“I have to give a big shout out to Scott Bannan and everyone who put the show on tonight, it is the best supercross event I have seen in Australia for a very long time, it was great to see so many spectators come out to watch us race and the atmosphere out there was amazing.”

Team manager Jay Foreman was happy to walk away from the evening with a third place finish and only two points from the championship lead, on a night where things could have ended a lot worse.

“They say you win your championships on your bad nights and if this is as bad as it gets we are looking good.” Foreman commented. “To walk away from tonight with a podium finish and only two points behind in the championship after crashing not once, but twice in the main event, we will certainly take it.”

Team Motul Suzuki’s second rider Kale Makeham did not compete at Jimboomba due to an injury he sustained at the opening round at Bathurst.
