JCR Yamaha’s Jay Wilson will miss the opening rounds of the 2015 Australian Supercross Championship as he continues to recover from a stomach injury gained in the lead-up to last month’s Motocross of Nations in France.

After clinching the national MX2 crown at Coolum weeks prior, Wilson was due to represent Team Australia at Ernee until a crash while testing put him out of the iconic international teams event.

“On the Monday night after I had my crash in Belgium I had surgery, but I didn’t realise until I got back home that they had stitched my stomach muscles up,” Wilson told MotoOnline.com.au. “It’s going to take some time for the muscles to heal up, but it is what it is – it’s part of the sport that we do.

“I’m not exactly sure when I’ll be back. I’ll be out for the first two rounds at this stage, then we will see how everything’s travelling along after I start physio. I’d like to come back during supercross, but we will have to see where we are at and take it step by step.”

Wilson had hoped to secure a fulltime seat in Europe for 2016, intending to use the MXoN event as a platform to show his potential, however the injuries denied him that chance. Now, it’s becoming increasingly likely we will see him in Australia again next season.

“I was at Ernee for the three days and it was really an eye-opener,” he added. “The crowds go crazy over there – road bikes on the limiters, flairs, chainsaws and stuff! – so it was disappointing I couldn’t race. I was there cheering on the Aussie boys and it was an experience that I’d definitely suggest.

“Obviously I was trying to find something in Europe and I didn’t help myself with the crash, it made it tougher, but at this stage we’re still looking around and seeing what options are available at the moment.”

This year’s Australian Supercross Championship will commence with the opening round at Bathurst Showgrounds in New South Wales on Saturday night, 10 October.
