Takes over championship lead following round two.
The second round of the KTM Australian Amateur Cup was hosted in chilly Shepparton over the weekend, with KTM-mounted Elias Dukes taking the top spot on the podium and extending his Amateur Cup championship lead.
After experiencing success at the first round of the cup in Raymond Terrace, Dukes fought off his competitors to take second in moto one and first in moto two, handing him his first Amateur Cup round win for 2015.
Dukes, who made the trip to Shepparton from Lithgow in NSW with his family, spoke of his victory and praised the MX Nationals and KTM Australia for providing the opportunity to compete for his own championship.
“The track was one of the roughest tracks I’ve ever raced, but it was awesome to ride a track like that because you really had to use a lot of skill on the bike and it was good to come away with the win,” he said.
“My mum, me and my little brother all drove down and my brother was my mechanic for the weekend, which was cool. We have always rode so it was a bit of a family affair. Having a championship like this is so good for us guys who don’t professionally race and it’s a good stepping stone to racing in the MX2 and MX1 classes just to see where you’re at.
“I work fulltime, so I’ll be trying to put in a bit of training before Coolum and ride every weekend and try and get a bit quicker and fitter before then because it will be tough in the sand.”
The final round of the KTM Australian Amateur Cup will be hosted alongside the final round of the 2015 MX Nationals in Coolum on Saturday, 29 August.
