Anstie sweeps MX2 motos in perfect weekend.
Two new winners emerged on Sunday in round 12 of the 2015 MXGP World Championship at Kegums, Latvia, as Rockstar Energy Suzuki Europe’s Glenn Coldenhoff and Monster Energy DRT Kawasaki’s Max Anstie took the overall victories.
In the premier MXGP ranks Coldenhoff won the opening moto before backing it up with second position in moto two, claiming Suzuki’s first grand prix victory of the year overall.
Team HRC’s Gautier Paulin raced to second overall via 3-3 moto results, while red plate holder Romain Febvre went 8-1 for third overall. He crashed in the opening race at turn one before blitzing his way through the field.
Rockstar Energy Suzuki World MXGP’s Kevin Strijbos claimed fourth overall ahead of Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Antonio Cairoli, who soldiered on despite his painful broken elbow to maintain second in the standings.
Top Australian was Dean Ferris (Wilvo Nestaan Husqvarna Factory Racing) in 10th overall 10-12 finishes, while Todd Waters (Red Bull IceOne Racing Husqvarna) went 14-10 for 12th overall after his heavy qualifying crash on Saturday.
This weekend was a testament to Anstie’s ability to ride sand in MX2, topping qualifying and then winning both motos for his first grand prix victory of the season.
Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Pauls Jonass had the fans booming this weekend as he led laps and put in two solid second place finishes for second overall, while Wilvo Nestaan Husqvarna Factory Racing’s replacement rider Harri Kullas was a fine third.
